Castro Marim Golfe & Country Club is a golfer's paradise with three fantastic nine hole courses - The Guadiana, The Atlantic and The Grouse. The practice and teaching facilities are excellent with two driving ranges and a short game arena.
But the resort is not just for golfers. There's plenty more to do if you want a holiday that isn't just about lazing by the pool of your luxury villa. The resort has its own gym which you can use for free.
You can hire bikes from reception to explore the resort and surrounding area of the Sapal Nature Reserve.
Bird and nature lovers will be in their element as there are many species of exotic birds to see, like flamingos and Avocets in the winter months. Summer visitors include the colourful Bee-Eater.
You can enjoy a game of tennis at the tennis club in the nearby town of Vila Real Santo Antonio, where Castro Marim Golfe & Country Club enjoy 20% discount. Or have a flutter at the Monte Gordo casino.
The area has wonderful beaches and is great for wind surfing and sailing. And there are many boat trips to go on - either along the coast or up the Guadiana River which divides Portugal and Spain.
Spain is just over the border and makes a fascinating day out. The little town of Ayamonte with its quaint cobbled streets and tapas bars is just ten minutes drive away and you can be in Seville in just over an hour.
Castelo castro marim
The region has an interesting history. Castro Marim's castle served as a base for the Christian Knights as they battled the Muslim Moors in medieval times. Today's castle was rebuilt in the 17th Century. At the end of August / beginning of September it stages a three day Medieval Festival, which is always a great spectacle.
reserva natural do sapal
Castro Marim is situated within the Sapal Nature Reserve, a tidal saltmarsh and one of the most important wetlands in Portugal. Bird watching and walking tours are a popular activity. Nearby Monte Gordo beach is the biggest beach in the Algarve, with clean golden sand, wind surfing and beach bars. The water is probably the warmest in the region due to its location near the mouth of the Guadiana River.
Vila real de santo antónio, Aiamonte, sevilha, mértola, alcoutim e tavira
There are many interesting towns to visit, like nearby Vila Real Santo Antonio with its beautiful old buildings, great restaurants and interesting shops. It sits on the banks of the Guadiana River, right opposite the Spanish town of Ayamonte, which you can visit by ferry (a ten minute crossing). And, of course, don't forget Seville with its fantasic Spanish culture, flamenco shows and shopping, a little over an hour away. Interesting Portuguese towns in the area are Mértola, with its annual Arabic festival every May, Alcoutim and Tavira. Portugal is famous for its pottery and lace tablecloths. Alternatively, if you want quality leather goods you just have to drive ten minutes into Spain.
We've got the best of both worlds - and we're just half an hour from Faro and an hour from Seville international airports.
